GISD District of Innovation FAQ

General Information

One of the areas that the GISD Innovation Committee will explore is an exemption to the uniform start date that is mandated by the state (no earlier than the fourth Monday of August).  This will allow flexibility for planning the district calendar each year and allow flexibility for student days, staff development, etc.

GISD believes that having the applicable certification and credentials to deliver instruction is very important, and we will continue to ensure that our students have highly qualified educators delivering their daily instruction.  There are certain fields that have a critical shortage of qualified applicants.  For those areas only (ie. CTE pathways), the GISD Innovation Committee will be exploring alternatives to allow additional qualifications to be considered to allow us to recruit high-quality instructors.

The committee will revisit the plan annually to ensure that the recommendations are still in line with the needs of the district.  Any changes recommended would be on the website for 30 days and require the approval of the Innovation Committee and the School Board.
