As we all know, Flu, RSV, COVID-19, and Rotavirus are in full swing here in Central Texas. Groesbeck ISD has taken extra steps to help prevent the spread of infection, including increased cleaning and sanitizing in high-traffic and high-touch areas and new air purifiers in high-risk areas.
Our dedicated nurses are working hard to assess ill students and send them home when necessary to help reduce the spread of germs.
Our hardworking custodians are not just dedicated employees—they are parents, grandparents, and family members who are also concerned about the safety and health of our students, staff, and visitors. They have been specially trained in touchpoint cleaning, focusing on high-contact areas like water fountains, door knobs, faucet handles, paper towel dispensers, toilet handles, partitions, classrooms, etc. This proactive approach helps us ensure that all areas are kept as clean and safe as possible. Additionally, our custodians use Buckeye Clarion 25 Microban Antimicrobial Floor Finish, which kills bacteria on contact, providing extra protection throughout our buildings.
When you enter any campus, you’ll find sanitizing stations available for your use. Let’s all work together to maintain a clean, healthy environment for our students, staff, and families!
A Message from Our Nurses:
Here are a few ways YOU can help keep infections from spreading:
• Keep your child home until they are fever-free for 24 hours WITHOUT fever-reducing medications
• Make sure your child is free of vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school
• Allow your child to stay home when they are sick
• Improve air quality whenever possible
• Practice good hand washing and use hand sanitizer (the #1 way to prevent infection)
• Cough/sneeze into your elbow
• Avoid touching eyes, mouth, and nose
For more tips! Here is some information and links from the CDC website.
What to do when you are sick
CDC recommends that you stay home and away from others until at least 24 hours after both your symptoms are getting better overall and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Resume normal activities and use added prevention strategies over the next five days.
Core prevention strategies:
Immunizations are available for all three major fall and winter respiratory diseases – flu, COVID-19, and RSV (for groups eligible for RSV immunization).
Washing hands and improving airflow in the places where people live and work are important to lowering risk from respiratory viruses.
Additional prevention strategies:
Everyday actions like masking and physical distancing can provide an additional layer of protection.
Tests are available that can quickly detect these respiratory viruses so patients don’t delay treatment and other actions that can protect their family, friends, and coworkers.
