We understand that recent news about nationwide immigration activities may have been upsetting to many in our community. The administrative team has worked together to ensure that we have steps in place to maintain secure environments for our campuses and district.

As district leaders and parents/grandparents/guardians ourselves, we take our children's safety very seriously. Groesbeck ISD is dedicated to providing a safe, welcoming learning environment for all families, students, and staff.

A law enforcement official will not be given access to any student without parental consent unless required to do so by a subpoena, warrant, or other law.

If a law enforcement officer presents a federal or state warrant, subpoena, or requests an interview with a student, campus staff will:

·      Verify and record the identity of the officer or other authority and ask for an explanation of the need to question a student at school;

·      Ask for documentation that sets forth the basis for the interview;

·      Make reasonable efforts to notify the student’s parents/guardian or other approved family members, if appropriate;

·      Notify the superintendent of the request; and,

·      Ordinarily, be present for the questioning or interview.

It is important to know that, as school officials, we are entrusted with maintaining the confidentiality of student information and records and cannot release this information without written consent from the parent/guardian, student/prior student 18 or older, or a valid subpoena/court order, as this information is protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

We encourage you to talk with your children about any concerns they have regarding potential immigration enforcement activities. Our counselors are available to help any student or staff member in need of additional support.

Thank you for your trust as we work together as a community to educate and keep our students safe.
